The Lenten Season

THE LENTEN SEASON

(Wednesday, February 14 – Sunday, March 31)

Lent, is a religious observance that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends the Saturday before Easter/Resurrection Sunday. This time spans 46 days; however, Lent is a 40 day observance (because Sunday’s are not included). It is a time of self-examination, reflection and remembrance of the 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness leading to his crucifixion.  Some people use this time to be more intentional in prayer, meditation, or offer this time to fast (refrain from doing something they would normally do as an act of sacrifice/abstinence).

Lent, is also a time of preparation; a time to consider how we, as Christians, should live our lives – in response of God’s gift of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer.

“There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus,

No not one; no not one

None else could heal all our soul’s diseases

No not one; no not one

Jesus knows all about our struggles

He will guide ‘til the day is done

There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus

No not one; no not one.”                             HYMN
